Job Summary

The Avionics Manufacturing Engineer is tasked with taking conceptual designs of boards, assemblies, and harnesses, and defining efficient and quality-oriented and developing a production system capable of building rockets with acceptable Safety, Quality, Cost, and Delivery parameters. The main responsibilities include process definition, tool and fixture development, and constant integration with technicians and engineers.

Essential Functions

  • Manage the release of engineering drawings for boards, assemblies, and harnesses.
  • Develop, document, and implement processes for avionics parts and sub-assemblies.
  • Work with engineering department on defining test plans for avionics checkouts.
  • Design manufacturing equipment, fixtures and workstations for ergonomics and efficiency.
  • Develop manufacturing processes.
  • Help drive design for manufacturability.
  • Collaborate on in-house development of equipment.
  • Manage external equipment integrators from equipment development through buyoff.
  • Validate and characterize new equipment and fixtures for production implementation.
  • Create detailed manufacturing and work instructions to document new processes.
  • Manage a structured approach to improving the production line by analyzing common causes within the line. Go and see (gemba approach) the issues on the line and prioritize.
  • Work with production supervisors and technicians to ensure efficiency and optimization for better throughput.
  • Be responsible for the Safety, Quality, Efficiency, and Cost targets for your specific Manufacturing Business Unit.
  • Ensure safety & work processes are followed according to documentation.
  • Assist in developing & procuring suitable tools and equipment.
  • Work to define suitable process parameters for specific Business Unit.
  • Integrate closely with build technicians to learn, document, and solve build issues as they come up.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Education: BS/MS Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related.

Experience (Years): 3+ preferred

Experience (Technical): Previous technical experience is preferred

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, CAD programs

Travel: Up to 20%

Citizenship: Must be authorized to work in the US

ITAR Requirements:

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
